Updates about Library Services

Using Library Materials

Accessing Books, DVDs, and Other Physical Materials

Access to the library stacks (bookshelves) is restricted solely to library staff.  Browsing is not possible.  However, if there are materials that you want, you can request them by title and call number at the Checkout Desk.  If you don't have the title or call number, just a topic, please stop at the Research Assistance Desk to get some titles and call numbers that will be useful to you.

Books currently checked out to you can be renewed through your Library Account if needed.

You can also access e-books through the library catalog - see the Off-Campus Library Research tab to learn how.

Books, DVDs, etc. from Other I-Share Libraries

I-Share, the system whereby you request materials from other Illinois academic libraries, is again lending in most cases.  For instructions on how to request items from other libraries, see the Interlibrary Loan tab.

Course Reserves

If your instructor placed physical items on Reserves for your class, you can access them at the Reserve Desk.  Be aware that print items will need to be quarantined for 24 hours BETWEEN student uses, so you may have a wait. If you are a student having difficulty accessing your course textbooks, please contact your instructor. If you are a faculty member, you can use DOI links to provide your students with access to electronic readings from library databases - contact a librarian to learn more about this.
