Librarians in Canvas

A guide to collaborating with librarians within Canvas.

Adding Resources Through "Send To"

Librarians can create resources such as assignments, modules, pages, or quizzes within their own instance of Canvas. They can then send them to you using the "Send To" feature. You will find these shared items in your account under Shared Content. You can preview them and import them into your course.

Detailed instruction for how this process works can be found on this Instructure community page.

Adding Resources Using Permalinks

You can create a Page within your course specifically for library resources and information, and give the librarian permission to edit it. This means you don't have to worry about importing anything.

First create a new page by clicking on the Pages link in the Course Navigation links. Then hit the +Page button to the right.

Give the page an appropriate name. The Librarian role in Canvas is based on the Student role. So in the Options section, select "Teachers and Students" under "Users allowed to edit this page."

This will also allow the librarian to add library resources directly to the page in your course using the appropriate permalinks. After the librarian has completed the addition of resources, you can change the permissions of the page back to Teachers Only, if you are concerned about students accidentally editing the page.
