Permalinks

All the various ways to create a permalink for library resources to share with Bradley faculty, staff, and students

Welcome

Welcome to this guide on permalinks. It intended to help you

  • understand what a permalink is
  • Locate permalinks on library resources
  • create a permalink with EZProxy.

Start Here

permalink is a permanent link, a URL that points to an article or other online resource, allowing the reader to go right to it without re-creating a search in a database. It may also be called a static link or jumpstart link.

You should link to the PDF/full-text in a database or a publisher's website using a permalink.

Permalinks include special information (called the proxy) about the library so that when the item is in a subscription database or ebook, the user will need to login with their BUNet ID.

FAQ

Why can't I just copy the link from my browser?

Most library resources are from vendors who use dynamic links through scripts to access items in their resource. This means the URL will not be constant. Also, the proxy needed to access to library resources may not be included in the URL shown in the browser.

What is the library's proxy?

The proxy server allows a user to authenticate as a Bradley University user in order to access a resource. This is especially important off-campus. While on-campus, you will be recognized by the IP used at the computer, but off-campus, you will need to go through a proxy server and enter your Login credentials.

What is our proxy server address?

What if it is Open Access?

When an article is open access, go directly to the publisher’s website and locate the article. Then copy the URL from the browser or from the article’s share feature (where available).
