Online Tools to Help Find Potential Journals

A variety of online tools are available to assist you with identifying where to publish your research.

You can check a journal's impact factor (a calculation based on citations of articles that is used to evaluate the importance of a journal within a field) with Scimago Journal & Country Rank.

Think. Check. Submit. offers tools and resources for choosing the right journal or publisher for your research.

You can also use this list of Occupational Therapy (journals linked below) to identify journals to submit your research.

ORCID

Register to get an ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor IDentifier) before publishing. It is a 16-digit, unique identifier for researchers. Simply make a free account to get yours. It takes about 30 seconds.

Using your ORCID can save you time. It improves discoverability, eliminates name ambiguity, connects your work, and stays with you throughout your career.  Additionally, ORCID is required by a growing number of funders and publishers.

This 4-minute video explains how it works and the benefits.

Predatory Publishing

Beware of predatory publishing. A predatory publisher uses unethical, exploitative publishing methods. This is a growing concern in research and scholarship. Make sure the journal you submit to is from a credible and trusted publisher.

This article explains how to avoid publishing in a predatory journal.
