Research Impact Challenge at Bradley University

This guide contains 10 activities for researchers to better understand and manage their online scholarly presence, as well as the impact and reach of their research.

Day 2: Linking Scholarly Systems to ORCID ID

Welcome to Day 2 of the Research Impact Challenge!

Today’s challenge is to link other scholarly systems to your ORCID ID profile.

If you’ve used SSRN, SciENcv, or BioSketch, you've re-entered the same information. But did you know that ORCID can also be used to keep your own publications up to date on their sites?

Here's how to do it on four sites:

  1. Web of Science Author Records: Create the account without a subscription to improve your citation report accuracy by syncing with ORCiD.
  2. SciENcv's BioSketch can by populated with a complete ORCiD account and kept up to date by ORCiD's simpler interface.
  3. NCBI can be created from the ORCID log in.
  4. Integration with Watermark could be possible if the university chooses to pay for that level of subscription and integration.
  5. Google Scholar (from Day 2 of this challenge).

What next?

  • When you add a citation, new production, or other entry to ORCiD, it will cascade to these other systems.
  • You no longer need to visit each system to update the same information repeatedly.

Celebrate your accomplishments!

Congratulations! You've completed the Research Impact Challenge! Your ORCID now integrates with other systems, relieving administrative burden for you to focus on research and writing and you’ll receive email alerts every time Google Scholar finds a new publication or citation that it associates with you.

Do you have scholarly work that is important for your tenure and promotion portfolio? What about other kinds of work, like art exhibitions, syllabi, instructional materials, or slide decks that you'd like to save and share with colleagues? One way to make your work more visible to others is to deposit it in an appropriate digital repository. Revisit Day 3's challenge or email a librarian if you have questions.
